How safe is your information?
Last night I watched a documentary on SKY about the increase of identity theft and so called “skimming” of auto banks in the United Kingdom. It made me realise many of us use computers in one form or another to store information. PDA, Mobile Phones and PC. I am no expert on computer security, but I do try my best to make sure that my personal files are as safe as possible. I am very fortunate to have two hard drives on my laptop. One for the Operating System and one purely for personal files, photo’s etc. When it comes to banking details and other personal details I use an encryption program called Steganos.
I started of using PGP in the good old DOS days and when it was still free. The original programmer (Phil Zimmerman) nearly ended up in jail in the US for writing this piece of software. US Government was not impressed with the idea that it was virtually impossible to crack. With PGP to encrypt a file you create your “personal key” that is only known to you. I prefer PGP’s method as I feel it is more secure as there is no exchange of passwords. It is a commercial product now and does have a bit of large price tag.
On the Firewall and Anti-Virus side of things I moved from Symantec to Kaspersky. Kaspersky also have a Mobile Version for PDA’s and Mobile Phones. I doubt if most of us have to go to such extremes, but lately with the treats of exposing our personal emails to the public, it may be worth looking into something to make things a bit more secure. Nothing in this world is 100% secure, but it is better to have a lock on our front door than nothing.
Better safe than sorry!

Is seker so.

Oi, ek is moeg geploeg!

Hallo Demoerin.
My eerste besoek hier op jou interessante blog. Ek lees lankal. Keep it up.
Groete,
Frank Botha

Frank?
Elk geval baie welkom Frank.

Watter hoek is jou fish en tjips winkel DMI?
Comment by Rustig on 21 August 2008:
